In partnership with Shropshire Council, we are delivering the Sustainable Warmth Shropshire Programme — a fully funded scheme offering eligible homeowners and landlords access to a range of energy efficiency upgrades.

Whole-House Upgrades for a Warmer Shropshire
In partnership with Shropshire Council, Communitas Energy is supporting delivery of the Sustainable Warmth Shropshire Programme — helping eligible homeowners and private landlords access fully funded energy efficiency upgrades.

Measures may include:

  • Loft and wall insulation

  • First-time double glazing and external doors

  • Solar PV systems (with optional battery storage)

  • Clean heat systems, including air source heat pumps

This programme follows a whole-house approach, so measures work together to improve comfort, reduce heat loss, and lower running costs — while supporting the UK’s net zero goals.

✅ Applications are open
Homeowners and private landlords are encouraged to register interest.

Case Study: Transforming Home Heating in Shropshire

From Cold to Cosy: A Fully Funded Heat Pump Upgrade for a Vulnerable Resident

At a glance:

Location: Shropshire, England

Property: Residential home (existing oil heating system)

Customer: Owner occupier, aged 93

Funding route: Home Upgrade Grant (HUG) via Shropshire Council

Upgrades: Air source heat pump (Daikin), new hot water cylinder, full radiator upgrade

The challenge:

Mrs M, aged 93, required a home that could maintain a consistent, comfortable temperature 24/7 to support her health and wellbeing.

Her existing heating system — an ageing oil boiler combined with a leaking immersion heater — had become unreliable, inefficient, and costly to run. The property needed a long-term solution that would provide dependable warmth without increasing energy costs.

What we did:

  • Assessed the property and confirmed suitability for a fully funded upgrade under the Home Upgrade Grant (HUG) programme

  • Designed and installed a Daikin air source heat pump system, tailored to provide consistent heating throughout the home

  • Installed a new hot water cylinder to support efficient system performance

  • Upgraded the property with nine new radiators, including additional units in the main living space to improve heat distribution

  • Delivered the full installation within one week, minimising disruption

  • Provided clear guidance to the household on system use and temperature control

Results & impact:

  • Maintains a consistent indoor temperature of approximately 21°C, day and night

  • Improved comfort and wellbeing for a vulnerable resident requiring constant heating

  • Reduced reliance on fossil fuels, replacing oil with a low-carbon heating system

  • Expected lower running costs, particularly important given year-round heating needs

💬 “My mum needs 24/7 heating at a consistent temperature… the new system gives her exactly that. She’s delighted and so are we.”

Wider impact:

This project forms part of the wider Shropshire Home Upgrade Grant programme, which has delivered 150+ heat pump installations across the region — helping households reduce energy costs, improve comfort, and transition to low-carbon heating.

At Communitas Energy CIC, we prioritise both technical performance and resident wellbeing, ensuring every system is designed around the needs of the household.
